Disability Royal Commission

A Royal Commission is an investigation, independent of government, into a matter of great importance.  Royal Commissions have broad powers to hold public hearings, call witnesses under oath and compel evidence; and they make recommendations to government about what should change.

The Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability was established in April 2019.  The inquiry will investigate all forms of violence against, abuse, neglect and exploitation of, people with disability, in all settings and contexts.  People with disability, like everyone else in our community, have the right to live free of violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation.

All Australians should have confidence in the quality and safety of supports provided to people with disability.

The Disability Royal Commission gathers information through research, public hearings, personal experiences from people, submissions, private sessions, and other forums.  There are many ways you can get involved in the Royal Commission and to share your experiences.
